Fort Worth, TX – The Bethesda Varsity Men's Basketball team is set to face Sacred Heart Muenster in the TAPPS 2A Regional Playoffs on Saturday, February 18, at 6:00pm at Celina High School. The Lions are coming off a 43-32 win over Lubbock All Saints in the TAPPS 2A Area Playoffs, which improves their season record to 30-6 and crowns them as Area Champions.
Bethesda has faced Sacred Heart Muenster in two district matchups during the district season, splitting the matchups 1-1. On Tuesday, January 17, the Lions fell to Sacred Heart on the road 52-61. The Lions shot 45% from the field that night but just 18% from three.
Hanson Allen finished the first matchup with 16 points while
Kevin Thornton followed with 12.
The Lions would bounce back in a big way on Tuesday, February 7, with a 66-53 win over Sacred Heart at home. Bethesda would shoot 50% from the field that night while grabbing 14 offensive rebounds. Four different players would end their night with double digit points.
Hanson Allen finished the night with a game-leading 16 points while
Christian Blackwell was close behind him with 15 points. Both
Kevin Thornton and
Stephen Lovelady would also contribute 11 points each.
Christian Blackwell would pull in 17 rebounds in addition to his 15 points scored, giving him a double-double on the night. The Lions will look to repeat with a big win in their third matchup of the season against Sacred Heart.
With a win over Sacred Heart in the TAPPS 2A Regional Playoffs, Bethesda will advance to the TAPPS 2A State Tournament set to take place on Wednesday and Thursday, February 22-23, in Waco, Texas.
