Celina, TX – With just 1.3 seconds left in the games, Bethesda's
Cason Clagg sunk a free throw to give the Lions a 37-36 win over Sacred Heart in the TAPPS Regional Playoff on Saturday night at Celina High School.
The Lions took a 5-point deficit in the fourth quarter but managed to hold Sacred Heart scoreless over the last 4 minutes of the game. Senior
Eli Owen would hit a big three-pointer with 3 minutes remaining to put the Lions back in the game, and Senior
Kevin Thornton would tie the game 36-36 with 1 minute left remaining. The Lions defense would show up one more time as they forced a turnover with 50 seconds remaining. After holding the ball for nearly 40 seconds on the final possession,
Cason Clagg would take a pass in the right corner, drive the baseline, and get fouled with 1.3 seconds remaining. Clagg would go on to sink his first free throw, giving Bethesda the Regional Championship and sending them to the TAPPS State Tournament.
Kevin Thornton led the Lions with 11 points, while
Hanson Allen added 10 and
Christian Blackwell finished the night with 9.
Eli Owen added 4 points while
Cason Clagg had 3.
